The Unapologist Manifesto
Poetry is created in every society, in every language, in every circumstance. It has existed as long as human language.
We declare ourselves unapologetic upholders of the tradition of poetry and stand willing to defend it against fashion, trends, funding bodies, councils, schools, governments, bureaucrats, academics, and public opinion.
We call on all poets to raise their voices in support of their craft and their fellow poets.
We are not creating something new – we are registering our allegiance to something that has always existed. We invite all who refuse to apologise for a belief in poetry to join us.
Lives lived as poets are extraordinary lives.
